Idea #17: Calendar comics

Today’s comic idea:

Make a comic that consists of twelve pictures. Each picture depicts a moment in the life of a character by your own choice.

Also, each picture takes place a month after the previous one. Storytelling with month-long gaps between the pictures can be hard, but it’s in no way impossible.

Keep in mind, it’s still supposed to be a story. So your first picture should introduce the reader to the story, the last picture should end it all somehow, and inbetween you need story development, character development and all that stuff.

Now, take these twelve pictures and print a calendar. You now have the story of a year in your character’s life, and an instant merchandise object.

To make it all a bit easier, you could also include more images per month, so that instead of a single picture each month you have a page. That’s easier because you don’t have to capture that month’s impact on your story in a single image, but I’m not sure if it is as awesome as finding the perfect moment each month to drive the story forward. Also, I doubt it’s as original.

There are tons of websites online where you can upload your own images and have calendars printed cheaply, too, so this doesn’t even have to be expensive.

Seventeen ideas down, eighty-three to go.

(I have no idea what tomorrow’s idea is going to be yet, but Sunday’s idea is awesome.)
