“Charity of a madman”: In stores now

May 07, 2010 By: Olaf Moriarty Solstrand Category: My comics

This blog post is coming a bit late, I probably should have written it on Monday.

But: If you’re in Norway, Sweden or Denmark, and you’re even remotely interested in my Disney comics, this (week #18) is one of those weeks when one of my comics is for sale again.

This week, it’s the twelve pages long Uncle Scrooge story “Charity of a madman”, which is printed in Norwegian Donald Duck & Co #18, Swedish Kalle Anka & C:o #18 and Danish Anders And & Co #18. For all that I know it could probably be printed elsewhere in the world in the not too distant future, too, but I know nothing for sure.

The pitch: Magica de Spell casts a hex on Scrooge, making him a big spendthrift. The plan is that he will just give her the Number One Dime when she asks for it, but of course things are never that easy.

It was a fun story to write, I’m satisfied with many of the puns and gags I managed to squeeze in there, and the artwork is by the more-than-excellent visual genius Cesar Ferioli.

So… Check it out if you want to.

“The importance of being Hewie” in stores now

April 07, 2010 By: Olaf Moriarty Solstrand Category: My comics

Just a heads-up to my Scandinavian readers, in case you’re interested in reading my Disney comics.

The Huey, Dewey and Louie story “The importance of being Hewie”, which I wrote a couple of years ago, is now printed in the Donald Duck weeklies in Scandinavia. Or will be this week (that’s issue 14/2010). It’s out in Norway now, I don’t know on which days it comes out in Sweden and Denmark, but it’s this week.

The story is not one of my best, but it’s okay, I guess. Nine pages long, with artwork by Daniel.

So now you know.

Déjà vu

July 30, 2009 By: Olaf Moriarty Solstrand Category: My comics

A little heads-up to my Scandinavian readers: Next week one of my Uncle Scrooge stories (one I wrote a whooping seven years ago) is published in the Scandinavian Donald Duck weeklies (issue 32/2009). The story has the title “Déjà vu”, and rumor says that the same title is being used in Norwegian. The magazine is out on Monday in Norway, I have no idea about Sweden or Denmark.1

The plot of the 12-pager is basically that Scrooge wishes that he was young again, Gyro Gearloose has an experimental potion which is designed to make people younger… And there’s a glitch in it, of course. No, Scrooge doesn’t turn into a baby or a preschooler, that joke has been done to death. Don’t expect Carl Barks quality, but my mother says she likes it. I haven’t seen it myself, so I don’t know anything about translation or coloring, but I *do* know that the artwork, done by Brazilian Luiz Podavin, is awesome. Podavin really captures emotion better than most other artists I’ve seen.

So now you know.

  1. If you read the Finnish Aku Ankka magazine, you might have seen the story already, as they printed it already in issue 19/2009. [back]
